The most disappointing mobile phones of 2023

 

2023 is turning up to be a really special year for the release of mobile devices, with an astounding amount of announcements and high quality. It's important to call attention to a few devices that stick out among this wide array of options because they are not inherently good.

While the four devices featured in this publication are undoubtedly of good quality, they somehow fail to capture my attention. It’s important to note that individual preferences vary, and what doesn’t resonate with me might still be a great choice for other users. However, from my perspective, these devices exhibit certain significant shortcomings that cannot be overlooked.

When it comes to selecting from the array of noteworthy releases in 2023, singling out a single favorite becomes quite the challenge. With options like the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy A54 5G , Redmi Note 12, and OnePlus 11, there’s no shortage of intriguing choices. Nevertheless, it’s easier for me to pinpoint those that left me disappointed for various reasons.

HONOR’s latest flagship, the Magic5 Pro, failed to meet my expectations, especially given its initial price tag surpassing 1,000 euros. In the market, there are better high-end alternatives available for around 700 euros, such as the Galaxy S23 and Xiaomi 13.

While the HONOR Magic5 Pro boasts expected flagship features, it falls short in performance. The cameras are decent, but the texture definition leaves much to be desired. Similarly, its battery supports only 66W fast charging, whereas more affordable options offer up to 120W. However, my main gripe is its excessive size, with a screen exceeding 6.8 inches and a thickness of nearly 9 mm.


 Realme ‘s premium mid-range device initially caught my eye with its striking design. However, when aesthetics take precedence over functionality, I believe something is amiss. The Realme 11 Pro+ 5G attempted to compete with the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G, but it seemed like a losing battle from the start.

 Rwanda has allocated Rwf2.3 billion in the 2024/2025 fiscal year which will commence on July 1, as initial funding for setting up a Drone Operation Centre as the country seeks to develop its unmanned aircraft industry at the same time ensuring its utilisation and effective regulation, The New Times has learned. Bulgaria issues guidelines for AI implementation in schools

 The Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science on Monday issued guidelines for the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in schools. The guidelines are for teachers, school officials, parents, and schoolchildren, to assist  in the proper and ethical use of AI, said the ministry. The 41-page document gives a definition of AI and how it works, and mentions AI tools such as chatbots. It says that the use of AI should help to improve the quality of education, and remain in line with national educational regulations. The guidelines also call for a balanced integration of AI tools into the learning process, since these tools provide both new opportunities and potential risks. "The use of AI in education must be constantly monitored and evaluated for its impact, taking into account the pace of development of technology and especially of AI systems and tools," said the document. How coding training nurtures software developers from Mahama refugee camp

Leilah Carmene Ntirampeba, a refugee in Mahama camp in Eastern Province, had lost hope for the future when her family fled Burundi in 2015. Ntirampeba, 24, enrolled in a local secondary school and studied Mathematics, Economics and Geography. After secondary school, she enrolled in a coding programme offered at the camp located in Kirehe District. Though life in a refugee camp means that there are limited resources and it is hard to have reliable incomes, training in software development offers opportunities for employment and internship placements for refugees like Ntirampeba.
